KABUL, July 26 (Xinhua) -- In a significant milestone for Afghanistan's technological ambitions, the nation's premier and most comprehensive telecommunications and technology exposition officially opened Sunday in the capital Kabul on Sunday, drawing hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors eager to witness the country's accelerating digital evolution.
The five-day exposition, organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in partnership with the private sector, features more than 200 booths showcasing innovations in software, hardware, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, fintech, e-commerce, startups, advanced networking, and technological education.
Zakirullah Amini, one of the exhibitors, presented a marketing software platform that connects customers and businesses seamlessly. He expressed strong satisfaction with the event, saying it provides a vital platform to attract new clients and expand his solution.
"Large numbers of people are visiting our booth and asking insightful questions," Amini told Xinhua. "We are signing contracts with new companies to integrate them into our system. Afghanistan is making steady progress toward digital transformation," he added.
Another booth holder, Elyasuddin Baraki, showcased lithium batteries, inverters, and high-efficiency solar panels. He highlighted how technological access has improved significantly in recent years, allowing Afghans to enjoy greater comfort in daily life. "The products we offer are new, cutting-edge solutions that bring substantial ease to people's lives," Baraki said. "All Afghans can now benefit from inverters, lithium batteries, solar systems, and modern telecommunication tools."
A standout attraction at the exhibition is the strong presence of students from Kabul University's Faculty of Information and Communication Technology. Their innovations in both software and hardware have drawn considerable interest from visitors.
Mohammad Aref, a sixth-semester student, said his team is presenting 15 integrated software-hardware projects and nearly 10 pure software solutions. Their flagship invention is an AI-powered system designed to detect and neutralize drones in restricted no-fly zones. "This system is fully integrated with artificial intelligence for drone defense," Aref said.
"This exhibition is a golden opportunity for us to showcase Afghan students' capabilities and provide practical solutions to real-world challenges."
High-level government officials attended the opening ceremony. Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, deputy prime minister for economic affairs, described technological advancement as a national priority. He stressed the government's commitment to developing the sector and positioning Afghanistan as a competitive player in the region and beyond.
Baradar also highlighted Afghanistan's potential to become a key data transit hub linking South Asia with Central Asia.
Beyond commercial displays, the exhibition symbolizes Afghanistan's broader determination to embrace digital transformation. By bringing together government support, private enterprise, and youthful innovation, the event offers a hopeful glimpse into the country's technological future. ■
