DAR ES SALAAM, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian Vice President Emmanuel Nchimbi on Sunday commended China Railway Construction Engineering Group (CRCEG) for the significant progress made in building the Arusha Stadium, a key venue for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), according to a statement by the Vice President's communications unit.

During an inspection visit, Nchimbi praised both the quality of work and the pace of implementation, noting that the project has reached 88 percent completion and is on track for delivery by the end of August 2026, said the statement.

He said the progress reflects the government's commitment to successfully host the continental tournament, adding that timely completion of the stadium is crucial for preparations.

He urged authorities to ensure that supporting infrastructure, including access roads to the stadium, is completed on schedule in line with President Samia Suluhu Hassan's directive.

AFCON 2027 will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda, marking the first time East African nations will co-host Africa's premier football tournament. ■
