BEIRUT, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli army is establishing two new positions in the border area of southern Lebanon, a Lebanese military source told Xinhua on Monday.

The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the first position is being built in the village of Maroun al-Ras in the Bint Jbeil district, about 2 km from the Lebanese-Israeli border. The second is under construction on the western outskirts of the town of Khiam, at the site of the former Khiam detention center, after Israeli forces completely bulldozed the area.

Meanwhile, Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported that Israeli drones continued flying over Beirut and its southern suburbs, while Israeli artillery shelled the outskirts of the border villages of Tallouseh and Markaba.

Also on Monday, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, after meeting with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, said Lebanon would not accept continued Israeli violations of the U.S.-brokered framework agreement, according to the Lebanese presidency.

He accused Israel of continuing to destroy homes and villages in southern Lebanon in violation of international law.

The developments came as the Lebanese army last Tuesday began deploying in the town of Zawtar al-Gharbiyah in the Nabatieh district as part of the first phase of its deployment plan in the "pilot areas" of southern Lebanon.

On June 26, Lebanon and Israel signed a U.S.-brokered framework agreement providing for the Lebanese army to extend its control over two pilot areas in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah has rejected the framework agreement, describing it as "non-existent," and reiterated its refusal to disarm. ■
