SHENZHEN, July 24 (Xinhua) -- A group of journalists from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies this week visited Shenzhen, China's tech hub, gaining an understanding of technology advancements that they said could be valuable for their own countries' green energy transition.

From independently developed nuclear reactors to cutting-edge electric vehicles, the tour on Thursday offered the reporters an opportunity to witness China's industrial innovation in its pursuit of greener growth.

At the Daya Bay nuclear power base, operated by China General Nuclear Power Corporation, they were shown a model of the Hualong One, a domestically developed third-generation reactor.

Regarded as a fine example of China's nuclear-power development, a single Hualong One unit is capable of generating around 10 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 8.16 million tonnes a year, equivalent to saving more than 3 million tonnes of standard coal.

The development of China's nuclear technology has been impressive, said Hana Nazir, a journalist with the Malaysian National News Agency. "We can learn something from the development," she added.

At automaker BYD, the reporters test-drove several of the company's latest models and watched engineers demonstrate its second-generation "blade battery" and ultra-fast charging technology, unveiled in March 2026.

According to BYD, under normal temperatures, the battery can be charged from 10 percent to 70 percent of capacity in just five minutes and to 97 percent in only nine minutes. Even at minus 30 degrees Celsius, it can be charged from 20 percent to 97 percent in around 12 minutes.

Such technological advances have helped fuel BYD's international expansion. The company's new-energy vehicles are now sold in 119 countries and regions, with many journalists noting the growing presence of BYD vehicles across Southeast Asia.

The media visit to Shenzhen came as China continues to accelerate its green transition through sustained investment in renewable energy and low-carbon technologies.

By 2025, renewable energy installations accounted for more than half of the country's total installed electricity generation capacity, driven by advances in technologies ranging from solar and wind power to energy storage and nuclear energy.

Last September, China pledged to cut net greenhouse gas emissions across its economy by 7 to 10 percent from peak levels by 2035.
