BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- State Grid Corporation of China, the world's largest utility enterprise, completed more than 310 billion yuan (about 45.63 billion U.S. dollars) in fixed-asset investment in the first half (H1) of 2026, up 12.6 percent year on year, the company said on Friday.

This investment supported the expansion of power transmission networks, the strengthening of urban and rural grids, and the integration of renewable energy.

Several major transmission projects featuring long-distance ultra-high-voltage transmission technology entered operation or began construction during the period. The company also continued to lead the world in pumped-storage development, with 76 pumped-storage power stations in operation or under construction, while total installed capacity under its management exceeded 95 million kilowatts.

Combined wind and solar capacity connected to the grid in areas served by the company reached 1.55 billion kilowatts in H1.

Market-based electricity transactions in State Grid's service areas totaled 3.48 trillion kilowatt-hours in the first half of 2026, up 25.6 percent year on year. Interprovincial green electricity trading rose 23 percent to 64.1 billion kilowatt-hours during this period.

Since the start of the summer peak-demand period, power load in State Grid's service areas has hit record highs twice, peaking at 1.27 billion kilowatts. The company, notably, has stepped up cross-regional power transfers and emergency response to help ensure reliable electricity supplies.

According to a report released by the National Energy Administration, China has built the world's largest power supply system. The country's total electricity consumption reached 10.37 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2025, surpassing 10 trillion kilowatt-hours for the first time, while the number of industrial and residential customers approached 800 million, the highest globally. China's power supply capacity and service levels also rank among the world's most advanced. ■
